Nilupul U. Bulathsinhala, OD (or known amongst the office as Dr. B) is a 2022 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO). Originally from Berwick, Louisiana, he went on graduate from the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. He then studied at Baylor University and obtained a degree in Health Science, which led to his acceptance to UHCO to pursue Optometry.
During his time in Houston, Dr. Bulathsinhala worked with Optometrists and Ophthalmologists with a focus on Dry Eye Care, Cataract surgery, and managing severe cases of Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, and Retinopathies of the eye. In the Spring of 2022, Dr. B interned with Dr. Janot's Vision Source in Sulphur, where he continued his training in full scope optometry, including LASER surgical procedures. He so enjoyed his time here, he decided this is where he wanted to begin and continue his optometric career. Having graduated and passing all the examinations provided by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, as well as the Louisiana State Board of Optometry Examiners, Dr. B was licensed as a Surgical & Therapeutic Optometrist. Knowing he could do more for his patients, he pursued additional courses and went on to become certified in Myopia management and brings this novel treatment to help his patients.
Aside from an accomplished track record in educational pursuits, Dr. Bulathsinhala spent his formative years dedicating his free time to community engagement and volunteer work, which he will continue to do in SWLA. He has been taking advantage of some of the finer things the area has to offer such as Mardi Gras, crabbing at Holly Beach, live music at Panorama, and the occasional festivals. You may also catch him enjoying, more than occasionally, Market Basket boudin.
